During Wednesday's banquet at the 2011 NJCAA National Volleyball Tournament, Blinn's head volleyball coach David Rehr was officially inducted as the newest member of the NJCAA Hall of Fame.

Rehr becomes the first member of the Hall of Fame from the Buccaneer volleyball program, and joins 17 former players, coaches and teams from Blinn to receive this top honor.

"It's overwhelming to say the least," Rehr said. "It's truly an honor, and I'm just happy to represent Blinn College."

Former Blinn athletic director Don Wilhelm nominated Rehr for the honor and was on hand to introduce Rehr as one of this year's two recipients.

"David has done a remarkable job during his tenure at Blinn, and is very deserving of this honor," Wilhelm said. "I'm extremely proud to welcome my good friend to the Hall of Fame."

"You want to be surrounded with the people that helped you get there," Rehr added. "My family, the players, the team, staff and administration - it's nice to be surrounded by the people that care about you and the success of the program."

Rehr has amassed a staggering 310-35 record and winning percentage (.899) in his nine years at Blinn, and is now looking to lead his No. 1 ranked Buccaneers to their second national championship in four years.

The Bucs open up play on Thursday, as they face No. 16 seed Gadsden State Community College at 1 p.m. The match will take place on Court 1 at the West Plains Civic Center in West Plains, Mo., with the winner facing either No. 8 Eastern Arizona College or No. 9 Miami Dade College later that evening at 7:30 p.m.
