The Region XIV Conference rebounding champion has announced she is headed to St. Edward’s University.
Blinn College sophomore Valencia White announced today that she will continue her playing career with the Lady Hilltoppers after helping the Buccaneers win 40 games over the past two seasons. White was a key contributor this season for the Buccaneers, who went 22-10 and reached the Region XIV Tournament semifinals.
“I think St. Edward’s got a steal with her,” said Blinn coach Jeff Jenkins. “She’s undersized at 5-foot-10, but she led our region in rebounding against 6-2, 6-3 kids every night. She always defended the other team’s best post player and did all the little things for us.”
White averaged 9.3 rebounds and 6.8 points per game, and her 51 steals marked a team high. As a freshman, she posted 7.4 rebounds and 5.1 points per game.
“Valencia is a great person, great in the classroom, somebody who you want your daughters to emulate,” Jenkins said. “She represented our college very well.”
St. Edward’s recruited White throughout the season, and she said the opportunity to stay close to her family in Conroe convinced her to choose St. Edward’s over Division I opportunities.
St. Edward’s, a Division II private school located in Austin, went 4-21 last season.
“I’ve grown a lot each year and I’ve gotten a lot better,” White said. “I’m glad I chose to come to Blinn College.”
