Brainard Takes SEC Rider-of-the-Month Honors in Horsemanship

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M equestrian junior Laura Brainard was named the March Southeastern Conference Horsemanship Rider of the Month, the league office announced today.
"I'm really proud of what Laura has accomplished this season,” horsemanship coach Beth Bass said. “She has been consistent as one of our strongest riders and this award reinforces that. Her win was crucial for us against Auburn and her four MOP honors this season are well-deserved."

Brainard (Weatherford, Texas) has been an anchor for the horsemanship squad all season and posted a 2-0 individual record in March as the Aggies earned their first-ever SEC win over then-No. 2 Auburn and fell to then-No. 2 Georgia.

Her 76.5 score against Auburn ranked third among A&M horsemanship riders this season and earned Brainard her fourth Most Outstanding Player (MOP) honor of the season. Her score of 75.5 against UGA ranks fifth among A&M horsemanship riders this season. Brainard’s four MOPs are a team and SEC best for horsemanship, and her three conference MOPs lead the league for horsemanship riders.

This is the first Southeastern Conference honor for the junior, who took honors as the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) Horsemanship Rider of the Month in October. Brainard owns a 6-4 record this season, and averages 73.65 on her 10 rides.

The fourth-seeded Aggies compete in the inaugural Southeastern Conference Championships this weekend, facing off against No. 1 seed Auburn tomorrow at 10 a.m. To learn more about Texas A&M equestrian, log on to and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
