Tickets to the inaugural Brazos Valley Bowl presented by Blinn College are now available for online purchase at Visit www.brazosvalleybowl.com .
The game will pit 11th-ranked Kilgore College and 13th-ranked Northwest Mississippi Community College in a Dec. 1 contest at Kyle Field on the campus of Texas A&M University. The stadium’s 82,600-seat capacity makes it the largest two-year college bowl venue in the nation.
Tickets are free for attendees aged 18 and under and for students with a college ID. All other tickets are $5 at the gate.
The excitement will begin at 11:30 a.m. when the Blinn Treasures lead 350 dancers from 14 high school drill teams across the state in a pregame performance. The game will kick off at noon, and both schools’ dance squads, including Kilgore’s world-famous Rangerettes dance team, will perform during halftime.
The Brazos Valley Bowl was the result of Blinn’s partnerships with community leaders aimed at boosting economic activity in the region during the historically sluggish month of December. Initial funding for the bowl game was provided by the City of College Station through Hotel Occupancy Tax funds.
According to an estimate by the Bryan-College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau, the event could bring $1 million in economic activity to the community as visitors shop, stay in hotels and eat at restaurants over the course of the bowl weekend.
The game furthers Blinn’s mission to benefit its host communities while informing thousands of potential students of the advantages two-year colleges provide through affordable academic and technical programs. Proceeds from the bowl will be distributed as new scholarships.
Kilgore and Northwest Mississippi have combined to win three national championships. Kilgore won the 1966 title while Northwest Mississippi captured the top prize in 1982 and 1992 and was the national runner-up in 1991.
