BRYAN, Texas -- Bryan's Ty Culbreth outdueled A&M Consolidated's Riley Ferrell as the Vikings shutout the Tigers 2-0 to take over sole possession of first place in district 12-5A baseball race.
Culbreth and Ferrell only allowed three hits each, but the Vikings made back-to-back hits in the 5th inning count. Zac Slaydon singled, then Michael Miner tripled past a diving Logan Howell in right to plate Slaydon and put the Vikings up 1-0. A wild pitch got Miner home from third to give the game it's final margin of 2-0.
Consol threatened in the top of the 7th but could not score. With runners at first and third Culbreth got Kyle Barfield to bounce into a double play to end the game.
Culbreth stuck out nine in the game. Ferrell struck out five.
Bryan improves to 18-6 overall, 8-2 in 12-5A and will visit Copperas Cove Friday. The Vikings lead Consol, Belton, and Temple by game in the district standings.
The Tigers fall to 13-9, 7-3.
