Bryan's Cadena Named Outstanding Lifter During 2nd Annual Brazos Valley Power Lifting Meet

BRYAN, TX -- Despite a bad hamstring, Bryan High's Michael Cadena was able to lift 1470 pounds on Saturday and was named the Outstanding Lifter at the 2nd Annual Brazos Valley Power Lifting Invitational on Saturday.

Cadena, advanced to state a year ago finishing 8th as a sophomore and is on pace to make another appearance at the State Meet after squatting 600,dead lifting 500, and benching 370 pounds at the meet.

"Michael's hamstring has been tightening up on him lately," said Bryan High Power Lifting Coach Robert Jesurun. "He's had better lifts, but it's getting better and we expect good things from him and the rest of our boys and girls teams at the State Meet."

While Cadena won the 275+ pound weight class, Chris Vivero won at 114 and Cory Goosby claimed first at 220. The Viking boys claimed 3rd in the team standings with Navasota winning it and Cy Woods coming in 2nd.

The new kids on the "power lifting" block, College Station High, won the girls' team title with Waller 2nd and Bryan 3rd.
