Blinn softball pitcher Jaiden Rawls was named the Region XIV Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 23 – March 1.
Rawls, a freshman from Beaumont, went 3-1 in the circle last week, posting a 1.46 earned run average (ERA), allowing five earned runs and striking out 19. Rawls earned the win in relief after the Bucs rallied to snap LSU-Eunice’s 17-game win streak Saturday 7-6 at the NFCA Leadoff Classic. LSU-Eunice is ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA Division II.
Rawls is 9-4 and carrying a 2.15 ERA in 88 innings this season. She has allowed 27 earned runs, struck out 63 and is averaging five strikeouts per game.
Rawls was just as dominant at the plate last week, batting .385 with three home runs, six RBI and four runs scored. She is batting .355 on the season, with a team-best eight home runs, 25 RBI and a .790 slugging percentage.
Barring inclement weather, the Bucs are slated to square off against Alvin Community College Friday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Hohlt Park in Brenham.
