Buccaneers earn win No. 20
Women’s basketball on five-game win streak

BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College women’s basketball coach Jeff Jenkins will finally get to change the desktop wallpaper on the computer in his office.
For four years, Jenkins’ screen has featured a photo of the Buccaneers’ 2008 team – the last to win 20 games in a season – and he’s sworn to keep it there until he has another team that reaches the 20-win plateau.
Thanks to Saturday’s 77-64 victory over Kilgore College, he’s about to do exactly that.
Freshman forward Shaniqua Dogins scored 20 points, sophomore Miki Turner scored 16 and Denise White and Christie Mooney each added 14 as the Buccaneers improved to 9-7 in the Region XIV Conference.
“It was a good offensive game,” Jenkins said. “We had one stretch in the second half where we had too many turnovers, but other than that it was a good offensive night for us and those don’t come around all the time.”
Blinn led 43-31 by halftime and shot 15-of-20 from the free throw line. The Bucs, who have now won five in a row, were able to overcome 33 points from Kilgore guard Bianca McGee with a balanced scoring effort led by Dogins.
“I thought we did a real good job of feeding the ball to Shaniqua, and she did a good job of being aggressive and taking it to the basket,” Jenkins said.
Blinn held Kilgore guard Aundrea Gamble, one of the conference’s leading scorers, to nine points.
The Buccaneers travel to Eunice, La. on Wednesday to play LSU-Eunice at 6 p.m.
