CORSICANA, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers finished their season one victory shy of their fifth consecutive NJCAA National Championships appearance Sunday.
The Paris Dragons defeated Blinn 5-2 in the Region XIV Tournament semifinals, ending the Buccaneers’ season with a 34-20 record. Trinity Valley and Paris will represent the Region XIV Conference at the national tournament in St. George, Utah.
Freshman pitcher Shannon O’Connor (19-11) threw well but couldn’t overcome four Buccaneer errors. O’Connor scattered six hits and three walks, striking out two.
Blinn’s only runs came in the fourth, when Kristina Davila singled and Peyton Webb followed with a two-run home run.
Paris rallied for five runs in the sixth inning, aided by three Blinn errors.
The Buccaneers graduate five sophomores this year in pitcher Caitie Carney, Davila, center fielder Christa Hartnett, leftfielder Tiffani McKnight and catcher Shelbe Sterling. All five players were part of Blinn’s Region XIV championship and fifth-place finish at the national tournament in 2012. In their two seasons at Blinn, they have been part of 85 victories.
Blinn has appeared at the national tournament in 2003, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
