Buccaneers softball falls to nationally-ranked foes

PASADENA, Texas – A pair of nationally-ranked programs stifled the Blinn College offense Sunday in the final day of the San Jacinto Softball Tournament.
Third-ranked Wallace (Ala.) State – Hanceville defeated Blinn 8-0 in five innings and 18th-ranked Iowa Western defeated Blinn 3-0.
The second-ranked Buccaneers went 1-3 in the tournament, including a pair of losses to Wallace St. They are now 6-6 on the season.
Tiffani McKnight posted the Buccaneers’ only hit in the loss to Wallace State. Freshman pitcher Katie Castillon (4-2) allowed seven hits and walked four. She struck out three.
The Buccaneers had just four hits against Iowa Western as Kristina Davila doubled and Shelbe Sterling, Marissa Purcell and Allison Artz each singled.
Freshman Shannon O’Connor (2-3) scattered six hits. She struck out seven and walked one.
The Buccaneers will get another shot at Iowa Western Wednesday when they host the Reivers for a 4 p.m. double-header at Hohlt Park.
