MIAMI, Okla. – Klartel Claridy rushed for a career high and the Blinn College football team beat Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (NEO) 28-23 in its Southwest Junior College Football opener here Saturday night.
Claridy ran for 152 yards on 22 carries and scored three touchdowns, and Spencer Cowley added another 91 on the ground as the Buccaneers picked up 352 rushing yards against the Golden Norsemen (1-2, 0-1).
After NEO took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, Blinn (2-2,1-0) responded with 21 unanswered points in the second quarter on two touchdowns by Claridy and one from Cowley. A 1-yard Claridy run with 9:38 remaining in the third quarter proved to be the deciding touchdown.
Blinn picked up 438 yards of total offense to NEO’s 429. The Bucs capitalized on five Golden Norsemen turnovers.
Quarterback Mitch Manley led the NEO offense with 132 yards on a 6-for-10 passing night. Buccaneer sophomore quarterback Garry Kimble was 9-of-19 for 86 yards.
The Buccaneers return to the field Saturday in Tyler at 7 p.m.
