LUFKIN, Texas – Sophomore left-hander Kevin Hahn threw 7 2/3 shutout innings and the Blinn Buccaneers pushed solo runs across in three different innings to pick up their third consecutive victory here Thursday night.
Blinn defeated Angelina College 3-0 as Hahn struck out seven while scattering five hits. He did not walk a batter.
“He was outstanding,” Blinn (4-3, 4-3 in Region XIV Conference) coach Harvey McIntyre said. “He dominated the strike zone with his fastball and change-up. Any time you put that many zeros on the board you have to do things well, and he did that from the first pitch to the last.”
Freshman Taylor Cobb recorded the final four outs without allowing a hit.
Jake Kane, Eric Wood and Josh Garza each drove in runs for the Buccaneers, who managed five hits against Angelina left-hander Dwayne Snider. Blinn scored solo runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
“They had a good little left-hander who kept us off-balance with his breaking ball,” McIntyre said. “He didn’t give us much, but when he did we took advantage with some good at-bats.”
Blinn hosts Angelina for a 3 p.m. double-header at Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham on Saturday. Prior to the first game of the afternoon, Blinn will recognize the 1992 Buccaneer baseball team, the last Blinn squad to qualify for the Junior College World Series.
