The College Station Lady Cougars defeated the China Spring Cougars 3-0 Thursday night in Temple to advance to the sectional round of the UIL Class 4A Girls' State Soccer Playoffs.
Early in the match, Maddie Kothmann broke down the right side and played a great cross to Kinsey Rhome on the back post. Rhome fired a shot off the goalkeeper, but the rebound came right back to Rhome whose second shot found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
At the 14:07 mark Jaylen Hinckley scored off a header to put the Cougars up 2-0 at the half.
In the second half Hinckley received a nice through ball from Courtney McGrew and slid the ball under the China Spring goalkeeper at the 24:24 mark for the final goal of the match.
Christina Hendershot recorded the shutout, the 15th on the season. Jj Handy, Haley Wagner, Kiley Scott and Maddie Jenkins also had solid performances on the back line for College Station.
The Cougs are 21-5-1 on the year and will play Lampasas in the next round of the playoffs on Thursday or Friday next week.
Lampasas beat Rudder on Thursday night at Robinson High School in Waco 3-1 to spoil an All Brazos Valley Showdown in the third round.
