BRENHAM, Texas -- The Lady Cougars of College Station High School notched the program's first ever victory Friday by defeating Cedar Creek 2-0 in the Blue Bell Tournament in Brenham.

In the tournament opener, CSHS was paired with Friendswood, who advanced to last year's regional finals. The Cougs, comprised exclusively of freshmen and sophomores, held Friendswood scoreless until midway through the second half when they made a great high shot from about 20 yards out. As the Cougars pushed forward to equalize, Friendswood scored an insurance goal with about 3 minutes remaining. In game two, the ladies from College Station were paired with Cedar Creek. About 20 minutes into the match, sophomore Courtney McGrew scored the first goal in the young program's history when her corner kick went directly into the far corner of the goal. Despite having a clear shot advantage, it took until midway through the second half before the Cougars scored again. Jaylen Hinckley made a good move inside and to her right about 18 yards out. Her right footed shot caromed off both posts before finally settling in the back of the net. Goalkeeper Christina Hendershot notched the shutout. Lauren Spohn also played very well for College Station. The Lady Cougars (1-1) will return to Brenham Saturday for games 3 and 4. They open the day against St. Michael's at 12:10 at Hohlt Park.
