COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Friday night the A&M Consolidated Tiger soccer team posted a 3-0 win over College Park down in The Woodlands. Daniel Zivney got the scoring started for the Tigers in the 10th minute. Roberto Palacios credited with the assist.
Jacob Ward found the net in the 22nd minute with Ryan Anderson getting the assist to make it 2-0.
Seven minutes later Zivney picked up his 2nd goal of the match with Jordon Fritsche credited with the assist giving Consol a 3-0 advantage.
The Tiger Defense had a strong showing as A&M Consolidated posted it's 2nd straight shutout.
Last Thursday Head Coach Stefano Salerno, unexpectedly lost his wife and soul-mate Kirsten in a tragic car accident. Despite the tragedy, the coaches and the team decided to play Friday nights game against 3rd ranked The Woodlands Highlanders.on the road.
Before the game all the boys wrote Kirsten Salerno's name on their cleats in her honor. The boys fought hard as a team and Brandon O'Donovan scored 2 goals, but in the end they lost 3-2 as the emotions got the better of them in the last 15 minutes of the game. In a memorable moment after the game, both teams met at midfield and prayed in a circle for Kirsten and Stefano Salerno.
The Rivalry game vs Bryan High was rescheduled until Wednesday as a Memorial game in honor of Kirsten. Salerno coached an emotional team to a 2-0 victory, with Yanni Georghiades and Jordan Fritsche scoring goals for the Tigers.
Despite some controversy in the refereeing that resulted in several yellow cards and a red for the consolidated team, the boys finished the last 15 minutes with 10 men and a victory. Salerno and Kirsten's families sat field side during the game in support.
Thursday was the funeral for Kirsten that saw a full church of people, including around 100 players and students, who came to show their support of their Coach, Friend and Teacher.
