AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Erin DeGrate had 24 points and 13 rebounds and Waco La Vega beat Abilene Wylie 66-53 in the Class 3A state semifinals Thursday to keep alive their bid to become the 19th undefeated champion in state history.
Calveion Landrum scored 19 points for Waco La Vega (34-0). She had 10 in the first quarter when the top-ranked team in 3A raced to a 13-2 lead and cruised to the victory.
The Pirates smothered Wylie with full-court pressure to force 11 turnovers in the first half. La Vega shot 52 percent in building at 38-16 lead by halftime and cruised through the second half.
Landrum finished with 19 points and Yasmine Evans scored 11 for La Vega.
Peyton Sanders scored 15 to lead Wylie (30-6).
