Cody Dickson pitched a complete game in route to a 4-2 Sam Houston victory over Louisiana-Monroe at Don Sanders Stadium.
Dickson struck out nine and issued only one walk in nine innings of work. The only runs Dickson allowed came in the first and sixth innings. He allowed just seven hits in the game.
Dalton Harrington led off the game with a base hit, was bunted over to second, and stole third. Harrington scored after Corben Green flared a double to left field that Luke Plucheck nearly came up with.
The Kats scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning. Freshman Spence Rahm led off the inning with a single down the left-field line. Ryan O’Hearn struck out before the Kats ripped off five consecutive hits.
Kevin Miller singled, Ryan Farney doubled to drive in Rahm, and Luke Plucheck singled to score Miller. The Warhawks pulled the starter Shelby Aulds and brought in Alex Dumaine who failed to get an out.
Dumaine gave up singles to Colt Atwood and Carter Burgess to drive in two more runs. Anthony Azar walked to end Dumaine’s day. Tyler Bray came in and finished the game allowing only one hit.
Dickson got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the seventh inning. After the first three batters reached, Dickson got a strikeout, a pop out, and a ground out.
The series culminates with the rubber game Sunday at 1 p.m. at Don Sanders Stadium.
