BRYAN, Texas – The finals were fast and furious Saturday at Diamonds & Dirt Barrel Horse Classic. A jam-packed week of action culminated in packed stands and some smoking fast runs around the barrels at the Brazos County Expo Complex.

In the Derby Finals and the Futurity Finals, riders posted record runs in less than 16 seconds – blowing away the rest of the times from the week long event.

The top two Derby Finals winners were Jordon Briggs riding Shake It Frenchie with a time of 15.918. And Jackie Jatzlau riding Catch the Rain with a time of 16.028.

The champions for the week are determined by taking their fastest run from the week – combined with their finals run – and the lowest combined times win the week.

Here’s the Derby Finals leader board: Jackie Jatzlau riding Catch the Rain won $3640. Jordon Briggs riding Shake It Frenchie won $2808. Kassie Mowry riding Burn Notice won $2080. Ivy Conrado riding Kellies Chick won $1664. Monica McClung riding Easy French Alibi won $1476.

In the Futurity Finals, the dirt was flying faster than we've seen all week. Vauna Walker won it all -- including more than $35,000 and a Rolex watch -- riding DTF Way Ta Fire with the fastest time all week of 15.698. Then came champion trainer Jolene Montgomery riding Marths Sixshooter with a time of 15.860. And in third place for the week was Lisa Thornton riding Straight Toasted with a time of 16.019.

The big money winners for the week in the Futurity were: Vauna Walker riding DTF Way Ta Fire won $35, 482. Jolene Montgomery riding Marths Sixshooter won $19,712. Lisa Thornton riding Straight Toasted won $11,827. Leslie Wills riding Incendiary Ivory won $7,885. Mary Burger riding Sadiefamouslastwords won $6,899.

“This week has surpassed all my hopes for what this event could be,” says Kristi Schiller, founder of Diamonds & Dirt. “It doubled in size this year, and we had the top barrel racers in the country here in Bryan, Texas. We can’t wait to be back next year and continue this incredible event.”
