Bryan, TX Bryan United forced extra innings, but couldn't bring home the win. Competition was evenly matched in the circle, as both teams had exceptional pitching. Ashley Trapp of Columbus and Rebecca Delgado of United both went the distance for their respective teams, and forced the opposing team's offense to make adjustments.
After facing their opponent two times before Wednesday night, these teams understood what it would take to win the series, the championship, and the berth to the state tournament.
United and Columbus alike played phenomenal defense behind their pitchers throughout the majority of the game. Columbus scored first, but United rallied with two outs in the seventh to tie up the game at 2-2.
Columbus would go on to score an unearned run in the eighth, and late errors by United eventually cost them the game. Delgado continued to fight and reach base in the eighth, but the next two batters were retired to end the game at 3-2.
Columbus won the Section 1 Championship Title and received a berth to the East Texas State tournament, starting Saturday in Seguin, TX.
