NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Franklin Lady Lions are state basketball tournament bound for the first time in program history after a 66-63 win over Crawford Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum on the campus of Stephen F. Austin.
Franklin claims the 2A Region III championship and will play in the state semifinals Friday at the Erwin Center in Austin. The matchup and tip-off time will be released Sunday, but the 2A time slots are either 8:30 a.m. or 10:00 a.m.
The Lady Lions led throughout, but the Lady Pirates never let them pull away. Franklin led by four after one, by six at the half, and by four after three quarters.
Head coach John Shelton said, 'We work about as hard as any team you'll find, boys or girls. I take in pride in that and the kids take pride in that and now they know why. They just have that lets dig down and 'lets go get i't attitude. That's the way the girls were today, they weren't going to beat us. That was the bottom line. We have that attitude that we are going to take care of business and that's what we did out on the floor. "
