NAVASOTA, TX -- The Navasota Rattler girls' varsity basketball team finished the regular season in dramatic fashion last night by upsetting the number 7th ranked Giddings Buffaloes 77-76 in overtime before a tremendous crowd at Rattler Gymnasium. Junior guard Alexus Freeman was unstoppable for the Rattlers breaking a NAVASOTA girl's single game scoring record of 42 points.
There were 19 lead changes and 7 ties in this see saw affair. Tae Lattimore sunk a free throw with 7.3 seconds remaining in OT to give the Big Blue the lead for good and then tremendous defensive pressure did not allow Giddings to get a shot off. Lattimore finished the game with 13 points. Freshman guard Denisha Ford added 9 points.
The win improves the Rattlers season record to 27-7 overall and they finish District 23-AAA play with an 8-2 record. It was tNavasota's 11th straight win at home this season after dropping their first 3 home games.
Giddings drops to 30-6 overall.
The Rattlers will now advance to the UIL state playoffs for the 10th consecutive season. Their opponent will be the Brookshire Royal Falcons. The date, site and time will be announced on Wednesday.
