HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Maddie Gangi has joined the Sam Houston State women’s soccer team after transferring from the University of Tennessee.

Gangi, a Frisco native, was a four-year letter winner at Centennial High School. She was named Defensive Player of the Year and first-team all-district three consecutive years.

“Maddie is a great attacking outside defender. She has an incredible engine and can get up and down the side all game long,” said Bearkat head coach Tom Brown. “She has created a lot of goals for the teams she has played on with her great services and speed to get behind the other team’s backs.”

Coming out of high school in 2013, Gangi was ranked as the no. 21 player in Texas by TopDrawerSoccer.

Gangi was a member of the Solar 95 ECNL, winning tournaments in Colorado Springs (2009), the Denver Cup (2010), the North America Memorial Cup (2011) and the Disney Showcase (2010).

In her four-year career at Centennial, Gangi totaled eight goals and 56 assists.

The daughter of Chris and Cydne Gangi, the redshirt freshman intends to major in journalism.
