BRENHAM, Texas -- Brenham High School and Cub football fans are mourning over the loss of one of their hometown heroes.
Gary Wayne Ragston unexpectedly passed away Sunday morning in Brenham. He was a standout football player for the Cubs during their 2005 campaign that saw them advance to the State Semifinals and finish the year with a 14-1record.
Gary played both ways he was a running back and receiver who scored 7 touchdowns that year, but where he really shined was on the other side of the ball. In 2005 he named to the Class 4A All State Football Team as a first team selection at linebacker.
Gary played college football at Blinn College and was on the Buccaneers 2007 National Championship team.
Gary's funeral will be Saturday morning at 11 at the Brenham High School Auditorium.
A memorial fund has been set up at Citizens State Bank and donations can be made at Ricky's Barber Shop and Platinum Cuts in Brenham.
