SNYDER, TX -- Blinn College sophomore Audrisa Harrison waited 20 months for Monday night’s season opener.
So it’s no surprise the 5-10 forward from Coldspring, Texas was ready to make an impact, scoring a game-high 19 points in the Buccaneers’ 74-64 victory over Western Texas College. The game marked Harrison’s first game since 2010. She missed all of last season following surgery to repair a torn ACL.
“She has just lived in the gym since then,” said Blinn (1-0) coach Jeff Jenkins. “I hope she had a lot of fun tonight. She only played 26 minutes, but she made the most of it.”
Harrison made all 11 of her shots from the free throw line.
“That shows how hard she worked in the offseason,” Jenkins said. “I think she’ll do nothing but get better.”
Tierra Tucker, a freshman guard from A&M Consolidated, scored 17 points and freshman guard Mo Bedford added 11.
Freshman forward Danielle Espinoza posted a game-high 17 rebounds and even spent some time at guard to help the Buccaneers match up against the Lady Westerners’ taller back court. Espinoza was coming off back surgery last season.
“I didn’t know she could perform like that,” Jenkins said. “She always practices hard, but I didn’t see 17 rebounds coming.”
Freshman forward Fatima Adams scored seven points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and sophomore guard Aarika Reyna hit a pair of threes off the bench to finish with six points.
Corrynn Englerth, a 6-2 post, led Western Texas with 14 points and Breanna Burton added 13.
The Buccaneers play at Cisco College at 6 p.m. Tuesday before hosting their home opener at 2 p.m. Saturday against Victoria College.
