BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M senior Henry Lelei earned a second SEC cross country Runner of the Week honor as announced by the conference office today. Lelei shared the men’s honor with Luis Orta of Kentucky.

The SEC women’s Runner of the Week is Kentucky’s Cally McCumber while the two Freshman of the Week honors were awarded to Missouri’s Tyler Scheider and Andrina Schlaepfer of Arkansas.

Lelei placed second amid a field of 163 runners at the Notre Dame Invitational this past weekend, running a time of 23 minutes, 36 seconds over a five-mile course in South Bend, Indiana. The effort by Lelei led the Aggies to a seventh-place finish among a field of 10 nationally-ranked teams. Last season Lelei placed eighth in the Notre Dame race with a time of 24:16.

The first SEC Runner of the Week honor for Lelei came two weeks ago after he won the Rice Invitational in Houston.

In the updated national rankings for this week, the Texas A&M men dropped just outside of the top 30 in the USTFCCCA Coaches poll. The Aggies were No. 14 in the nation prior to the Notre Dame meet, but now are among teams receiving votes.

A&M also slid down one spot in the South Central region rankings. The Aggie men are No. 3 behind Texas and Arkansas while the A&M women are No. 4 behind Arkansas, Texas and SMU.

The Aggies return to action with a trip to the Wisconsin Invitational on Friday, Oct. 12. The loaded field of 45 teams includes 21 men’s squads, including No. 1 Wisconsin, who are currently among the top 30 and 17 women’s squads who are ranked in the top 30.
