BRYAN, Texas -- The Brazos Christian Eagles return four starters on offense and six more on defense as they look to reach the playoffs for the fifth season in a row.
Brazos Christian will be break-ing in a new quarterback this season, and there is nothing more helpful to a young signal-caller than a good running game to count on.
The Eagles should have that thanks to returning 1,000 yard running back Kenny Honnas and offensive linemen Cole Elms and Cooper Owen. Honnas and Justin Duewall return alongside Kyle Steel to make up an experienced defensive secondary. Elms and Owen will anchor the line, and Jesse Honnas will be counted on to lead the line-backers.
The Eagles will play their first four games at home and that should help their young players get used to the game at the varsity level. The Eagles compete in TAPPS 3A District 5, home of 2012 state champion Shiner St. Paul and 2011 state champion Hallettsville Sacred Heart, so, needless to say, their schedule will be tough in 2013.
Brazos Christian has to play at St. Paul and Sacred Heart in district play, making the road to the playoffs even tougher. Expect the season finale with St. Joseph to decide the final postseason spot out of the brutal district.
