BRYAN, TX -- KBTX Media and Blinn College hosted the 17th Annual Classroom Champions Banquet at Christopher's World Grill in Bryan Wednesday evening. The event caps off the KBTX Classroom Champions season. Every Thursday evening during News 3 at Six one Brazos Valley high school student-athlete, who excels both in athletics and in the classroom, is profiled. The candidates are nominated throughout the school year by parents, friends, and school officials.

The Classroom Champions that were in attendance were personally congratulated by Blinn College President Dr. Harold Nolte along with KBTX General Manager Mike Wright.

The guest speaker was Sam Houston State Head Football Coach Willie Fritz. He challenged the Classroom Champions to try to remain positive in everything they do.

He shared a story about a theme T-shirt he had designed two years ago for his team that said, "Opportunity Is Now Here" but he explained it was displayed without spaces and had some in the Sam Houston State Athletic Department looking at as a negative statement claiming it said, "Opportunity is Nowhere".

"A bunch of these ladies (in the office) were looking at it and said why would this coach have a negative saying on the back of his shirt," explained Coach Fritz.

"One lady came down and said, 'Coach I don't understand why you have this T-shirt that says Opportunity Is No Where?' I said that's the problem with your end of the hall way. When you look at things its in a negative matter, when we look at things its in a positive matter at this end of the hallway. Opportunity Is Now Here. She turned around and walked down to the other end of the hall," ended Fritz.

To date KBTX Media has crowned 569 Classroom Champions. The program began in the fall of 1995 when Centerville's Amy Gregory was crowned. Number 569 was Brock Marburger of Round Top-Carmine High School who was honored as the final classroom champion of the 2011-2012 school year.
