The Sam Houston women’s basketball team scored a season-high 93 points as they routed Southeastern Louisiana, 93-73, Thursday at Johnson Coliseum. Angela Beadle scored 29 points, pulled down 17 rebounds and finished with six assists.
Beadle’s 29 points are the most she’s scored in a regulation game in her career. The junior post player has eclipsed the 30 point mark twice, against Rice and Southeastern Louisiana this season, but both games went to overtime.
The Bearkats held a 13 point lead early in the first half before surrendering the lead and trailing 37-35 at halftime. The Lions made a basket at the buzzer to take the lead into the locker room but SHSU looked like a different team in the second half.
“I think the biggest thing we improved on at halftime was boxing out and rebounding,” head coach Brenda Welch-Nicholls said. “We allowed a last second basket in the first half and I went into the locker room fired up and told our players we can’t allow putbacks.”
All five SHSU starters joined Beadle in scoring in double figures. Jasmine Johnson and Amanda Barnes each scored 14 points while Nyha Carter added 13 and Jazmin Wiley chipped in 10.
The Kats shot 50% from the floor in the game while Southeastern hit just 37% of their shots.
Sam Houston will close the season against New Orleans at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Coliseum. The contest will be the final game for three Bearkat seniors.
