COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Aggies forward Liz Keester was named the SEC Soccer Freshman of the Week the league announced on Monday.
Keester recorded her first-ever multiple-goal match with a pair of goals in a 4-3 overtime victory over Arkansas last Friday, including the game-winning goal in overtime.
The Tulsa, Oklahoma native started the match’s cavalcade of goals in the third minute of action, taking an offering from Bianca Brinson, 10 yards right of the penalty spot, and planting it into the left side-netting for the 1-0 lead. In overtime, Keester scored the golden goal from the left corner of the penalty box with a shot that had enough mustard on it to find the back of the net despite leaping Arkansas goalkeeper Cameron Carter getting a mitt on the ball.
On the season, Keester has appeared in all 14 matches, including 11 starts. She ranks second on the team in both goals (six) and points (14). She is also tied with Shea Groom for the most game-winning goals on the season with three.
Texas A&M returns to action on Friday when the Aggies travel to Tuscaloosa for a 7 pm match against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Maroon and White are in second place in the league standings with 15 points (5-1-0) and are just one point shy of first place LSU who owns 16 points (5-0-1).
