COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Aggie Soccer forward Liz Keester was named the TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Week the organization announced on Tuesday.
Keester registered a pair of clutch performances to help lead Texas A&M to its first-ever SEC Tournament crown last week. She finished the tournament with three goals of the Aggies’ five goals.
In Friday’s win over South Carolina, Keester gave the Aggies two goals in the first 12 minutes of action and A&M held off the Gamecocks for a 2-1 win in semifinal play.
On Sunday, the freshman delivered a golazo from 25 yards out with 6:58 remaining in the match to give the Maroon and White a 2-1 lead. Keester took a feed from Grace Wright, took one dribble near the right corner of the penalty box and unleashed a missile over the reach of a leaping Florida netminder into the left side netting.
The Tulsa, Oklahoma native earned SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player and All-Tournament Team honors for her efforts.
She was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team as voted on by the league’s coaches and was named SEC Freshman of the Week on one occasion during the year. For the season, Keester has started 22 matches, including 16 starts. She ranks second on the squad in points (24) and goals (10) and she also has four assists on the year. She is tied for the team lead with five game-winning goals.
Keester became the first Aggie to earn TDS Player of the Week since Whitney Hooper earned the honor in September of 2009.
Texas A&M is currently 17-4-1 on the season and earned a share of the SEC regular-season title with a 9-2-0 league ledger. The Aggies return to action Friday at 7 pm when they host the Utah Utes in a first round match of the NCAA Championship at Ellis Field.
