WACO, Texas -- The College Station Lady Cougars defeated Jacksonville 1-0 tonight to win the first playoff game in the young history of the first year program. The Maidens best opportunity came only 5 minutes into the match when Cougar midfielder Emily Guerrieri headed a Jacksonville header off the Cougar goal line.
Midway through the first half the Cougars seized control of the match and forced the Jacksonville goalkeeper to make some excellent saves. The Cougars outshot the Maidens 21 to 2 and finally broke through at 14:24 mark of the 2nd half.
Maddie Kothmann made a nice run down the left side beating the defender before sliding the ball to Jaylen Hinckley. Hinckley quickly found Steele Fancher with a nice pass at the top of the 18, Fancher made a great turn before sending Kinsey Rhome through 1on1 against the Maiden goalkeeper.
Rhome took one touch before firing a shot just over the goalkeeper's hands. With the victory, the Cougars improved their record to 20-5-1.
Next up for the Cougars will be an area match-up with China Spring. Thursday's 7pm match will be played at Woodson High School.
