BRENHAM, Texas -- The College Station Lady Cougars defeated the Brenham Cubettes in a shoot out to win the 36-4A district championship tonight in Brenham.

Brenham took the lead on a goal by Audresha Spates
with 6:31 left in the first half. With 20 minutes to go in the 2nd half, Cougar Kinsey Rhome threw the ball into Courtney McGrew who turned and fired a low shot just to the right of the diving Cubette goalkeeper to tie the game.

Regulation ended with the score tied 1-1. Both teams created chances in the two overtime periods, but neither team was able to break the tie. In the shootout, Brenham took a 2-1 lead when the second Cubette shooter beat Christina Hendershot to her left.

The Cougs tied the score at 2 when McGrew tucked her shot just inside the left post. Hendershot made a huge save against the third Brenham shooter to give the Cougars a chance to take the lead. Lauren Spohn beat the Cubettes goalkeeper to the right to give the Cougars a 3-2 lead.

The last Brenham shooter fired her shot over the goal to give the Cougars a 3-2 victory.

The Cougars (19-5-1, 10-0) will play Jacksonville in the opening round of the playoffs Tuesday night at 7:00 at the Waco ISD Complex.
