Leon, Round Top-Carmine to meet for 1A state volleyball title

GARLAND, Texas -- There will be an all-Brazos Valley 1A state volleyball championship Saturday as Leon and Round Top-Carmine won their semifinal matches Friday at the Curtis Culwell Center.

Leon took down Wink 25-14, 18-25, 25-17, 25-15 in the first semifinal. Morgan Sigford led the Lady Cougars with 17 kills. Thelma Flores added 14 and Brooke Hastings had ten. Brianna Sitton racked up 54 assists in the win.

Round Top-Carmine beat Cayuga in four 25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 27-25 as Megan Hohlt led the Cubbettes with 26 kills. Emily Noak chipped in 14 in the victory. Aby Cies dished out 43 assists and Brook Conley had 15 digs.

Leon and Round Top-Carmine will meet for the state title Saturday at 9 a.m.

Leon has won seven state titles, the last one coming in 2000.

Round Top-Carmine won championships in 1995 and 1996.
