A couple of local athletes struck gold in London.

Aries Merritt has called Bryan home for a number of years as he trained with his coach, who now works at Texas A&M. Merritt won gold for the U.S. in the 110-meter hurdles.

Demetrius Pinder is from the Bahamas, but has been competing for the multi-time national champs at A&M. He and three countrymen brought the island nation a gold in the 4x400-meter relay.

For Pinder, the gold has an extra special meaning for his country, as it was the only medal the nation secured at the 2012 Summer Games. The 23-year-old has been back home since the win, where the nation was more than welcoming to its winning athletes.

Merritt just returned to the area from a trip to the White House to meet President and Mrs. Obama, but the 27-year-old achieved another major feat in between his Olympic win and his trip to Washington. Merritt set a new world record in the 110-meter hurdles at his last event.

Both have eyes on representing their countries again at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
