COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Former Aggie women's basketball assistant and current Mississippi State women's head coach Vic Schaefer returned the Brazos Valley today for the third annual Coaches of Character Golf Classic.
Coach Vic has made his selection for the 2013 tournament. "This year, I am pleased to announce Mike "Radar" Ricke as my honoree for our Coaches of Character Golf Classic. Radar, as he is known by most, has been a trainer for 34 years at Texas A&M University. His impact is far reaching when you talk about the thousands of athletes and coaches he has worked with on a daily basis. I personally worked with him for 9 years during my stay at A&M and saw first hand his commitment to our student athletes and our basketball program. He cares for his student athletes as a father for his children. His character is unquestioned and his faith is unwavering. Radar will always be special to me because of his work with our teams while we were here from 2003-2011 but I personally will always remember him for his daily support and prayers during the Schaefer family's challenging time during Logan's battle and recovery from his injury three years ago. Radar continues to impact young people on a daily basis in a positive way. I am delighted he will allow us to honor him for his outstanding service and commitment to Texas A&M and the Brazos Valley. I know he personally supports the Hope Pregnancy Center and their core values and beliefs. I want to ask the Brazos Valley to join me in honoring this distinguished professional and man."
“I’m very thankful and humbled to be honored by Coach Schaefer and Hope Pregnancy Center”, replied Mike Ricke on hearing of his selection as this year’s honoree. “Vic and I were in school together at Texas A&M in the 1980’s and then worked together when he returned with Coach Blair. Being able to work in the athletic department at Texas A&M with our student athletes is very special to me. I am truly blessed.”
