HOUSTON, TX -- Texas A&M men’s tennis players Behzad Minavi and Junior Ore will compete in the Rice/MET Indoor Tennis Tournament held at the Downtown Club at The Met in Houston this weekend.

“We’re excited to get the spring season cranked up at the Rice Invitational this weekend at The Met,” Aggie men’s tennis head coach Steve Denton said. “Junior Ore and Behzad Minavi will compete for us. It will be a great gauge where Junior’s game is at after taking the fall semester off. Minavi is a young man who can provide much needed depth for us. He has improved his game and it will be very interesting to see how he stacks up in our spring lineup. We need to compete and this tournament format is perfect to get some matches under our belt.”

The draws were announced today and the Aggie duo received a bye in the first round of doubles and will advance to the second round to face the winner of the doubles match between Adam Gustafsson and Tommy Bennett of Rice and Will Stein and Facundo Lugones of TCU. Minavi and Ore will play at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 11. There are no consolation rounds in doubles, winners advance.

In singles action, Minavi, a sophomore letterman from Houston, will face Max Stevens from TCU at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Ore, a junior two-year letterman from Gaithersburg, Maryland, faces Dylan Tozier, a senior with Rice and first serve should be at 11:30 a.m.

In singles play, the players are guaranteed at least two matches so those who drop a first-round match will move into a consolation bracket.

Play begins on Friday with two rounds and then continues on Saturday before finishing up on Sunday.

The Aggies, ranked No. 26 in the pre-season ITA poll, will begin dual match play next Saturday, Jan. 19 in Dallas as they face the SMU Mustangs at 11 a.m. and then face Nicholls State at 4 p.m.
