BRYAN, TX -- Clay Wonnell fired a 3 under par 69 in the third and final round of the Southern Texas PGA Championships to capture the title being contested at Miramont Country Club on Wednesday.
Wonnell entered the final round trailing Scott Johnson, but birdied 4 of his final 12 holes to claim the title and $7,500 first place purse.
Wonnell edged out John Gibson by one stroke who shot a 3 round total of 3 under par 213 earning $5,500.
Miramont Country Club Head Pro Brad Lardon finished in a tie for 7th along with three other golfers, including Huntsville's Robert Thompson representing Whispering Pines Golf Club, with a 3 round total of 219 worth $1,400 each.
Carl Cooper finished 3rd, while Wes Skaggs and Johnson tied for 4th. Mike Kullberg came in 6th.
