AUSTIN -- Jeremiah Jefferson scored a game-high 29 points as Triple A Academy captured its first state championship in school history by defeating Mumford, 80-54, on Saturday in the Class 1A Division I boys basketball state-title game at the Frank Erwin Center.
Triple A (28-5) was sluggish to start and trailed Mumford by seven points after the first quarter. Thereafter it was all Triple A.
LaKendric Hyson led the Mustangs with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Aubrie King added 13 points and Dion Mack chipped in nine.
Tyler Singleton scored 18 points and Frank Hollis added 12 for Triple A, a team with at least five Division I college basketball prospects according to coach Tim Singleton.
Mumford (39-1) committed 20 turnovers and lost just its second game in two seasons. Both losses came in the state finals.
