Mumford improves to 37-0, advances past Port Aransas in Regional Semifinals

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- The beat goes on for the Mumford Mustangs winners of 37 straight after a 73-53 victory over Port Aransas in the 1A Division 1 Region 4 Tournament at The Cougar Den at Canyon High School.

The Mustangs grabbed a 22-12 first quarter advantage over the Marlins and never looked back. LaKendrick Hyson lead the Mustangs in scoring with 24 points while Aubrie King added 13. Josh Sustaita and Dion Mack each had 11.

The win sets up an all Brazos Valley Showdown in the 1A Division 1 Region 4 tournament between the defending regional champions and the Milano Eagles. Earlier in the day Milano beat Weimar 50-38. Mumford beat the Eagles twice in district play in the regular season.

Tip off on Saturday between the district rivals will be at 1pm. The winner advances to the UIL State tournament in Austin next week.
