BARCELONA, Spain -- Former Texas A&M All-American Grant Nel placed 11th in the three-meter springboard diving final on Friday at the 2013 FINA World Championships.
Representing Australia, Nel posted a six-dive score of 420.75. He scored in the 70-point range on five of six dives, but a 45.90 on his fourth dive doomed his chances for a top eight finish. Chong He of China won the gold medal with a score of 544.95 with Evgeny Kuznetsov of Russia and Yahel Castillo of Mexico taking the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
In the women’s three-meter dive, former A&M NCAA Champion Jaele Patrick, also representing Australia, advanced through the prelims with a score of 291.60, but finished 16th in the semifinals with a score of 276.50 and did not advance.
The swimming portion of the FINA World Championships begins on Sunday, July 28.
