GAME NOTES: Game #24 at South Carolina

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — No. 14/16 Texas A&M (18-5, 8-1) travels to Columbia, SC for a Top-20 match-up against No. 12/15 South Carolina (20-3, 8-2). The Aggies are looking to match the best conference start under Head Coach Gary Blair at 9-1, set in the National Championship 2010-2011 season.

The Aggies and Gamecocks will face-off for the first time in program history on Sunday. Blair has led his teams to a 11-3 career record against South Carolina, 3-3 in game played in Columbia.

The Aggies are currently on a six game win streak, tied for the conference lead with Sunday’s. A&M has won by an average of 22 points in the six-game win streak. The Aggies eight SEC wins have come by an average of 22.9 points.

The maroon and white look to continue the win streak following Monday’s 74-57 win over LSU at the Pete Maravich Center in Baton Rouge, La. The Aggies were led by All-American candidate Kelsey Bone’s 21 points, 16 of which came in a tight game in the second half. Senior Kristi Bellock recorded her fifth career double-double in a homecoming in front of several friends and family members, 12 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Courtney Walker continued her efficient play making 8-of-10 shots for 16 points to go along with three steals. The Aggies led from the opening minutes of the game, but the Lady Tigers continually fought back cutting the A&M lead to five with just over four minutes remaining. A&M closed out the game on a 13-1 run to secure the victory.

Senior Adrienne Pratcher is currently leading the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio according to the latest NCAA stats release on Feb. 7. The Aggies lead the SEC in field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage and assists per game heading into the matchup with South Carolina. Individually, Bone leads the SEC in field goal percentage (second nationally) and places second in both scoring and rebounding.

Sunday will be a return to South Carolina for Bone, she played her freshman season in Columbia earning All-Freshman Team and Second-Team All-SEC in 2010, while leading the SEC in rebounding.

Fans wishing to listen to the game can do so on the Texas A&M Radio Network with Mike Wright (play-by-play) and Steve Miller (commentary) on the call. The game will be broadcast in the Bryan/College Station area on KZNE 1150 AM. A video stream will be available on the South Carolina athletics website, www.gamecocksonline.com.
