COLLEGE STATION, Texas — No. 22 Texas A&M will face the first road test in SEC play at No. 23 Arkansas Sunday at 2 p.m. Sunday’s contest will be a rematch of the 2012 Second Round game in College Station, the Aggies were victorious 61-59 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
The game will be a homecoming of sorts for several members of the Texas A&M coaching staff, Gary Blair was the head coach of the Razorbacks for 11 seasons including a trip to the Final Four in 1998. Associate head coach Kelly Bond-White was an assistant for Blair during the last three seasons he coached in Fayetteville. Assistant coach Amy Wright was a standout player for Blair at Arkansas for four years including a WNIT Championship in 1999.
Junior Kelsey Bone has taken charge of the A&M team leading the Aggies in scoring in each of the last eight games. During that stretch Bone set a new career high in points of 33 against Old Dominion in the World Vision Classic held in Las Vegas. Bone has averaged 23.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game over the stellar eight game streak. The Aggies enter the game winners in 11 of their last 12 games, with an average margin of victory over 25 points.
Bone isn’t the only Aggie playing well of later, seniors Adrienne Pratcher and Kristi Bellock are taking advantage of their increased court time this season. Pratcher has had at least six assists in each of the last six games averaging 8 assists per game during the stretch, including a career high 12 against Old Dominion on Dec 20. Bellock is coming off her second career double-double in the SEC opener against Alabama with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
