Pairings Set for Aggie Invitational Opening Day

With some of collegiate golf’s top teams and players in Aggieland, the Texas A&M men’s golf team is ready to tee it up this weekend during the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club.

Tee times and opening day pairings have been set for the tournament with the Aggies stepping to the tee box at hole No. 1 as a part of the first group, beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. Admission is free for all spectators, who are asked to turn cell phones off and remain on the cart paths or in the rough, while staying at least 15 yards away from the golfers.

The Aggie Invitational field consists of 12 teams, all of which are ranked in the top 35 according to the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Four of the teams (No. 2 Alabama, No. 5 UCLA, No. 6 Washington and No. 8 Duke) are ranked in the top 10 while five additional squads (No. 13 Oklahoma State, No. 15 LSU, No. 17 Arkansas, No. 20 Kent State and No. 23 Texas A&M) find themselves in the top 25. In addition to the top-ranked teams, the individual field includes 18 players who are ranked among the top 50 golfers in the country (Golfweek/Sagarin).

“This is one of the best fields we are going to face all year and if we can play well against these guys, it should give us some confidence heading into the postseason,” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “There are a lot of great players here this weekend and many of them will spend time on the PGA Tour in the near future, so it’s a great chance to see them play early in their careers. We want to play well against the best competition we can and if you can do that against these teams on this golf course than you’ve got a chance to be successful anywhere.”

This weekend’s Aggie line-up will be seniors Cameron Peck and Drew Evans, junior Johannes Veerman, sophomore Greg Yates and freshman Andrew Lister.

Paired with players from Alabama and UCLA, Lister will be the first golfer to tee off on No. 1 at 7:30 a.m. followed by Veerman at 7:39 a.m., Evans at 7:48 a.m., Yates at 7:57 a.m. and Peck at 8:06 a.m.

“Our guys are confident on this golf course; it’s their home course and they play it all the time,” Higgins added. “They know where to miss and where not to miss as well as what the putts do. This is our chance to break out and really put some good rounds together. If you can post a good round and keep the score low on this golf course it gives you confidence that you can play anywhere because this is not an easy place to play.”

Additionally, six more Aggie golfers will be competing in the field as individuals. Freshman Ben Crancer and sophomore Ty Dunlap are slated to tee off from No. 1 at 9:00 a.m. followed by Case Cochran in a grouping at 9:09 a.m.

Beginning their first round at No. 10, junior Jade Scott and freshman Adrià Arnaus are slated to tee off at 9 a.m. with junior Ryan Kelley in the next group at 9:09 a.m.
The tournament’s second round will commence immediately after the conclusion of the opening round and is tentatively slated to begin with the first grouping returning to the course at 11:30 a.m.
