Price Hired as Aggie Defensive Line Coach

By  |

COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Terry Price, a four-year Texas A&M football letterman (1986-89) and a Southeastern Conference coaching veteran, has officially been named defensive line coach, Aggie head football coach Kevin Sumlin announced today.

"I am extremely pleased to name Terry Price as our defensive line coach," Sumlin said. "He is an Aggie, an SEC coaching veteran, a terrific recruiter and an even better person."

Price comes back to Texas A&M where he played on the defensive line with the Wrecking Crew and during his four-year career the squad compiled an overall record of 34-14, won Southwest Conference championships in 1986 and 1987, and only lost three games on Kyle Field during his playing career.

After being drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 1990 NFL draft, he played one year with the Bears and then one season with the Miami Dolphins before returning to Aggieland to finish his degree in 1992 and begin his football coaching career on R.C. Slocum's staff.

After departing A&M, Price served one year at Western Kentucky in 1994 as strength coach and defensive line coach before leaving for Ole Miss to serve on Coach Tommy Tuberville's staff with the Rebels from 1995-98 as defensive line coach. He moved with Tuberville to Auburn where he coached from 1999-2008. In 2009, Ole Miss' Houston Nutt hired Price to come back to Oxford to coach the Rebels in 2009-2011. Price had rejoined Tuberville in Lubbock with Texas Tech in December of 2011 before accepting the offer from Aggieland and Coach Sumlin.

His defensive line crews at both Ole Miss and Auburn were noted for getting pressure on the quarterback and creating havoc. The 2005 Auburn defensive line was best in the SEC in sacks and that included an 11-sack performance against arch rival Alabama. Five of Price's defensive end pupils were NFL draft picks between 1999 and 2007.

A terrific recruiter, Price helped bring to the Auburn campus players such as Karlos Dansby (Miami Dolphins), Cadillac Williams (2004 All-American; 2005 NFL Rookie of the Year, current Carolina Panther) and Jonathan Wilhite (Denver Broncos).

Price, who was born in Atlanta and played his high school career at Plano High School, is married to the former Kenya Hodges and they have two sons, Alexander and Devin.
