COLLEGE STATION, Texas, January 17, 2012 - Texas Rallysport brings rallycross back to the Lone Star State in 2012 in a big way, partnering with Texas World Speedway to host several events throughout the year at the sprawling, historic racetrack near College Station. “Rallycross” is a type of auto racing similar to autocross and solo events, with cars navigating a prescribed course marked with cones, but on a mix of gravel, dirt, sand, and other off-road surfaces. Cars take the course one at a time, and each run is timed down to the thousandth of a second. Rallycross events offer a low-cost entry into stage rally and European Rallycross types of racing, without the added risk and expense associated with those upper level motorsports. The classing structure is designed to promote entries and not discourage drivers who like to modify their cars.
The first event at Texas World Speedway will be held on Saturday, February 18th.
Houston-based Texas Rallysport LLC is organized by longtime SCCA member and former National Champion James Wilson, who envisioned a rebirth of rallycross events in Texas after a long absence. “The Texas Rallysport Series was created to jumpstart rallycross throughout the state. Many rally fans and racers alike have been begging for a series like this, and we are very happy to oblige! Texas World Speedway is the perfect place for folks from Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas to come race, and we are proud to partner with them for 2012 and beyond!”
