ARLINGTON, TX -- Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez’s retirement ceremony prior to Monday’s Texas Rangers game with the New York Yankees was seen by a record television audience, according to Nielsen Media Research data.
FOX Sports Southwest’s Rangers Live pregame show, which featured the retirement festivities for the team’s legendary catcher, scored a 4.0 Nielsen household rating in Dallas-Fort Worth, making it the No. 1-rated Rangers pregame show ever on the local sports network.
An average of 103,400 homes in Dallas-Fort Worth tuned in to watch the Rangers honor the all-time major league leader with 2,427 games caught before the game. Rodriguez announced his retirement earlier in the day after a 21-year All-Star career spent mostly in Texas.
The previous record for a FOX Sports Southwest Rangers pregame show was 3.6, set on June 24, 2002 before the second game of a doubleheader against the Anaheim Angels.
Monday’s game against the Yankees posted a 6.2 rating on FOX Sports Southwest and nearly doubled ESPN’s 3.3 rating for its telecast of the game in Dallas-Fort Worth.
For the season, Rangers games on FOX Sports Southwest are averaging a 7.2 rating, an 86 percent increase over last year at this point of the season.
