SEC Flags Raised at A&M

Updated: Tue 12:28 PM, Jul 10, 2012

Texas A&M officially became part of the Southeastern Conference Sunday, but Monday provided a new opportunity to show off the new Aggie SEC spirit.

In front of the McFerrin Athletic Center, student athletes helped raised 14 flags, each representing a school in the conference. That included A&M and Missouri, former Big 12 members who have now transitioned to what is widely regarded at the nation's premiere athletics conference.

Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin, new Director of Athletics Eric Hyman and football player Jonathan Stewart delivered remarks to the crowd. They raised the Aggie banner to join the other 13 that had already gone up the flagpoles.

"The SEC has been around a long time, and it will be around a long time," Loftin said, "and we'll be part of that great, great conference who literally is shaping the face of college athletics."

Hyman was announced as the new AD Saturday, having come from South Carolina, a fellow SEC school.
