The third annual Track Kat Klash women’s bowling tournament hosted by Sam Houston beginning Friday looks to be the biggest and best yet.
Barring travel problems due to winter weather Thursday, 21 teams will compete in the event at the Palace Lanes in Houston.
“Everyone is really excited about the Track Kat Klash this year,” SHSU women’s bowling coach Brad Hagen said. “We have a great field and a great facility.”
Thirteen of the top 20 teams in the country including eight squads ranked among the top 10 make the Track Kat Klash one of the most talent-laden events of the season.
Sam Houston State, the No. 7 team in the newest National Ten Pins Coaches Association poll, is the two-time tournament champion. The previous two events were held in Huntsville.
Other top 10 teams set to play in the tournament are No. 1 Arkansas State, No. 2 Nebraska, No. 3 Maryland-Eastern Shore, No. 5 Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 6 Stephen F. Austin, No. 8 Vanderbilt and No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Also coming to Houston are No. 12 Sacred Heart, No. 13 Saint Francis (NY), No. 14 Valparaiso, No. 16 LIU-Brooklyn and No. 20 Alabama State. Unranked squads in the Track Kat Klash include Jackson State, Grambling State, Louisiana Tech, Monmouth, Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern, Tulane and Alabama-Birmingham.
Competition begins Friday with six quad baker matches. Saturday the teams will duel in five-player traditional team matches. Total pin fall for each team will determine seedings for Sunday’s final day best-of-seven baker bracket action.
Palace Lanes is located at 4191 Bellaire Blvd. in Houston.
