Sam Houston State University Official Soccer Signees

SAM HOUSTON STATE UNIVERSITY -- Three high school standouts, Robin Lee, Ashley Long and Caitlyn Schwartz, have signed letters of intent to attend Sam Houston State University and play women's soccer for head coach Tom Brown.

Lee is a versatile defender who competed in the UIL playoffs for Mesquite Horn High School and won the 2013 State Cup Championship with Sting 97 Royal club team.

Long earned first-team all-district honors as a defender at Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio and was a part of the Classics Elite Soccer Club.

Schwartz is a three-time all-district midfielder and team captain from Lady Bird Johnson High School in San Antonio. She also received numerous accolades playing for the Classics Elite Soccer Club.

“I feel these three players can have an immediate impact on our team,” said Bearkat head coach Tom Brown. “Ashley and Robin are two very experienced defenders who can help solidify our defense. They both have a lot of versatility to play any position in the back. Caitlyn brings a great attacking presence to the midfield. Our midfielders were very good last season and she makes us better. I am excited to see how these three will fit into our team.”

Robin Lee – Defender – Dr. John Horn High School (Mesquite, TX)

--A three-year starter for Coach Brooke Collier that helped her team to a second place finish all three years. She was named second-team All-District in 2013. Her team made it to the second round of the UIL playoffs.
--Played for Sting 97 Royal, coached by Jeremy Halverson and Trini Borunda.
--2013 State Cup Champions and Region 3 quarterfinalists.

--Coach Tom Brown: “Robin is a fantastic attacking player out of the back. She is very good on the ball and can create attacking opportunities. She can play as either a central or wide defender. She is strong in the air and good at winning balls.”

Ashley Long – Defender – Ronald Reagan High School (San Antonio, TX)

--A three-year starter for Coach Frankie Whitlock that earned first-team All-District honors as a junior and second-team honors as a sophomore. Played on an undefeated district championship team as a sophomore and a district runner-up team as a junior. Her teams were area semifinalists both years.
--Member of the National Honor Society and underclassmen honor society.
--Played for Classics Elite Soccer Club, coached by Dennis Chavarria.
--Played in the Region III Premier League-2010
--Played in USYS National Cup League-2010-2013
--Champions of the Plano Day Invitational-2012
--Played in the State Classic League-2010 and 2011
--Champions of the State Classic League-2013
--Champions of WDDOA Division 1-2012

Caitlyn Schwartz – Midfielder – Claudia Taylor Johnson High School (San Antonio, TX)

--A four year player for Coach Kara Stracener on the varsity team. She is a three time all-district 26-5A midfielder and received the Johnson Hero Cape Award all three years. They were Region Champions and 5A State Finalists in 2011 and 2013. Her team won a district championship in 2013. She is a team captain this year as a senior.
--Academic All-District in 2013 … San Antonio Express News Player of the Week in 2012 … named a San Antonio Express News Player to Watch in 2014 … I-10 Shootout All-Tournament Team in 2014.
--Classics Elite Soccer Club coached by Dennis Chavarria.
--She was the Classics Elite “MVP” in 2012.
--She has been a team captain from 2011-2014.

--Coach Tom Brown: “Caitlyn is an exciting player who can score goals from midfield and also sit deep to be a ball winner. She has good height and can help win air duels in the midfield. She also has a very good touch on the ball to start combination play with her teammates.”
