SHSU-Rice Baseball March 26 Service Night at Don Sanders Stadium

Posted: Wed 11:14 AM, Mar 20, 2013

When the top 25-ranked Rice baseball team comes to Huntsville to face Sam Houston Tuesday March 26, it will be “Service Appreciation Night” at Don Sanders Stadium.

That night the Bearkat baseball team will wear special “Warrior Camo Jerseys.” Each of the 41 jerseys will be auctioned off to fans and proceeds from the auction will benefit the Lone Survivor Foundation.

The jersey auction will be held online at www.gobearkats.com and will start on March 26 (game day) and end April 7. Bidding starts at $100. Fans can bid online during the Sam Houston versus Rice game.

Marcus Luttrell, former U.S. Navy Seal who received the Navy Cross who established the Lone Survivor Foundation, will sign each jersey if desired.

Headquartered in Houston, the mission of the Lone Survivor Foundation is “to restore, empower and renew hope for our wounded warriors and their families through health, wellness and therapeutic support.” To learn more about the foundation, go to www.lonesurvivorfoundation.org.

Any fan with a military/service ID or wearing their uniform will be admitted free to the game March 26. Guest of military and emergency service personnel will receive a group rate of $4 per ticket.

“Service Appreciation Night” is aimed at honoring all service personnel – police, emergency service, fire, law enforcement and military – with special recognition to welcome Vietnam and Korean War veterans.

Sam Houston and Rice both earned NCAA Division I Baseball Championships berth last year, meeting head to head in the Houston Regional last spring. The No. 3 seeded Bearkats eliminated the Owls in the semifinals and played 2012 NCAA World Series participant Arkansas in the regional finals.

Prior to the baseball game, Bowers Blvd. will be closed from Sycamore Avenue to the edge of the Don Sanders Stadium parking lot from 5 to 10 p.m. for pedestrian flow, tailgate and police and military displays that include a rock wall and Humvee.

Tickets for the event are available now at www.gobearkats.com/tickets or by visiting or calling the Sam Houston athletic ticket office at the Ron Mafrige Field House at (936) 294-1729.
